-
- Well, there were a couple of reasons why I only said:
- "Changing the view size to a quarter of the original screen area will
- usually at least double the frame rate.
- 160x100 is probably going to be a usable resolution on a standard Falcon."
-
- First, it's difficult to be sure which resolution you've got after pressing
- '-' for a while. The frame rate can vary quite a bit depending on whether
- you're at 180x120 or 140x80 (or whatever the nearest sizes are).
- 'at least double' seemed to be vague enough to be correct. ;-)
-
- Second, everyone is probably going to run in a nearly full screen mode,
- whatever resolution they use. Unfortunately, those modes are not available
- yet (apart from mine and Anthony's test versions).
- Pixel doubling via the processor takes more time and therefore I don't think
- it's a good idea to give actual figures for that.
-
- > A figure of 4 FPS dropping to 3 FPS seems pretty poor and that there
- > would be no way of getting a higher FPS rating.
-
- Perhaps I should move the comment about decreasing screen size up to above
- where the figures are mentioned?
-
- > By saying that the screen can be minimised and swapped to another
- > resolution will make standard Amiga A1200 ears prick up ...
-
- Yes, saying that the engine can run at any resolution is a good idea.
- How about this modified section:
-
- So, is BAD MOOD fast?
- ---------------------
- Naturally! :-)
- This is by far the fastest Doom-like engine produced on the Falcon.
- There are ten or so other engines, some commercial, some FreeWare or
- ShareWare.
-
- The engine can run at any resolution and the frame rate will of course
- depend on what you use.
- Changing the view size to a quarter of the original screen area will
- usually at least double the frame rate.
- 160x100 is probably going to be a usable resolution on a standard Falcon
- with frame rates around 10 fps for the current engine.
-
- Some actual performance figures:
- (Standard Falcon030, 16 Mhz CPU, 16 bit bus, 32 Mhz DSP)
- (Without the DSP this machine is similar to a non-FastRAM Amiga 1200.)
-
- The Doom ShareWare WAD file, DOOM1.WAD on the opening level (e1m1)
- at 320x200, full-screen, with all surfaces fully textured starts out
- at about 5 fps. When walking around, the framrate never drops below
- 4 fps and often is quite a bit higher.
-
- The Heretic ShareWare WAD starts out at about 4 fps and drops to
- 3 fps in some places.
-
- Using an accelerated machine obviously gives better results. The majority
- of BAD MOODers do have accelerated machines of one form or another.
